A Spanish Bilingual Education For Your Preschooler
Potrero Kids (PK) is a year round, Spanish bilingual, dual-campus preschool operated by the Potrero Residents Education Fund (PREFund). Open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. and serving three meals a day, PK provides high quality preschool services to the working families of San Francisco’s Potrero Hill and Eastern Neighborhood communities. PK’s first campus is a unique concept – a private bilingual preschool located on a public elementary school campus. Considered a pilot program, the Potrero Kids at Daniel Webster (PKDW) preschool is integral to expanding community support for Daniel Webster Elementary School while also providing a much-needed preschool option in Potrero Hill. In the fall of 2012, PK expanded to include a new campus on Illinois Street (PK3) in the Dogpatch neighborhood.
Why a Bilingual School?
Expands the Mind
The most important goal of our early childhood curriculum is to help children become enthusiastic learners. Exposure to more than one language before age seven greatly expands a child’s developing mind and ability to become bilingual. Our teachers capitalize on this unique language learning window by providing instruction, songs, and stories in both English and Spanish.
Given the rich diversity of San Francisco, parents in our community are particularly interested in raising their children with dual language skills. We strive to complement this diversity by providing children with a bilingual early learning experience that encourages them to become independent, self-confident and inquisitive learners.
To create a trusting environment for children, parents and staff in which the learning that takes place in our program extends beyond our four walls and enriches our families and our community.
Potrero Kids first opened its doors in September 2008 in Potrero Hill and has now expanded to the Dogpatch neighborhood as a dual-campus, serving close to 100 students.
To our supporters for their generous contributions to making Potrero Kids a reality.
